The Ultimate Lucky Student and the protagonist of the musical! Although he appears to be completely average in every aspect, his optimistic attitude truly earns him the title of the Ultimate Hope.
#1 Before we go any farther, I guess I should introduce myself. My name's Makoto Naegi. As you can see, I'm nothing but a hopelessly average high school student. Average on the inside, average on the outside. |
#2 I refuse to give up! I refuse to get bored! I refuse to throw it all away! I refuse to despair! Because all I have going for me is the desire to keep moving forward! |
Sing a musical theatre song that you believe would suit this character. Some examples include: 'Corner of the Sky' from Pippin or 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' from Les Miserables. |
An enigmatic girl whose 'Ultimate' talent is unknown. She radiates a cold and unfriendly attitude, and deflects any questions about her identity or past. Despite this, her insight and deductive abilities prove invaluable during the murder investigations.

'... Anyway, don't get too depressed over all this. The reason I'm not willing to talk about it isn't because I don't trust you. In fact, I DO have faith in you. Which is why I've decided to tell you what I have. I want you to understand WHY I can't tell you. I can't show you myself, just like I can't show you what's underneath these gloves. I can't imagine a point where I would show them over again.' |

Yamada is the SHSL Otaku. Although he may seem perverted with... odd interests, he is merely the same as everyone; a frightened teenager stuck in a horrifying situation. Prefers 2D girls to real ones, and believes Fanfiction to be true works of art. A real stereotypical nerdy type.
'Mwhehehe... I see true quality in you, Mr Naegi. True quality!' |

'PULL THE TRIGGER!'
DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a Japanese game that was originally released on PSP in 2010. In 2013, the game was rereleased on PSVita, and then subsequently translated to English and released in America in 2014.
DanganRonpa has been classified as a 'murder mystery visual novel', but it's so much more than that. DanganRonpa is a magnificently immersive, innovative, psychologically based game with intricate and unique characters. The storyline is original and pleasantly dark, bordering on creepy. With a magnificent soundtrack to match, DanganRonpa is the whole package.
_________
Danganronpa Shared Voice Actors
When I first began playing DanganRonpa, I didn't know what to expect. I had discovered it through a recommendation, and upon seeing the trailer, I decided to try it.
The first thing I that pulled me in was the storyline: You play as a teenage boy named Makoto Naegi, who is beginning his enrollment at the mysterious and illustrious Hope's Peak Academy.
Hope's Peak Academy is a school for the 'Ultimates' of the world. Makoto has been chosen as the 'Ultimate Lucky Student', a normal student who is chosen to attend the elite academy by random drawing.
Shortly after entering the doors of the school, upon reaching the hallway, Makoto mysteriously passes out. He then wakes up surrounded by the Ultimates only to find they've all been trapped inside the school by an unknown culprit who only communicates with them through a creepy bear toy named Monokuma.
The only way out? Get away with murder.
Their targets? Each other.
And so thus begins Makoto's school life at Hope's Peak Academy.
This game utilizes the 2.5D graphics method. Concerning the gameplay, the gameplay is in first person, from Makoto's perspective.
You investigate the school, and the murders that take place using the touchscreen (or the control pad if you prefer), similar to a seek and find game.
You must pay attention to the things Makoto's 'classmates' say, and sometimes are given a chance to 're:act' to their statements.
Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc English Voice Actors
You also participate in 'class trials'. In the class trials you are to 'shoot down' false statements with 'truth bullets' by aiming at the statements, which will literally be whirling across the screen, and subsequently shooting them down. This mode of the game requires you to listen to and counteract the arguments made by the other classmates to find the culprit.
Reaction time and perceptiveness are key here.
I feel this is easier to understand seen than explained, so if you don't mind spoilers (only for chapter 1 of the game) see the video below.
Many have related this feature to the Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright games.
I feel the gameplay was highly suited for the nature of the game and was a refreshing break from the 'usual' button-mashing gameplay style you see in many games today. The fact that this game is slightly slow paced may be a turn off for some people, but I rather enjoyed the game's style and pace.
I think a huge plus of this game is the characters. They're all very original and eccentric. And equally lovable (and hateable, depending on who we're talking about).
Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc Cast
The dialogue in this game can be quite humorous, and equally disturbing at some points due to the characters' diverse personalities. Since this is a G-rated app, I won't post screenshots of the dialogue nor delve into the characters' personalities.
The English voice actors did a spectacular job of portraying the characters, and the music soundtrack is clever and impressive.
Overall I highly recommend this unique and very entertaining game.
